Some optical encoders have built-in conditioning circuits so that the
output is TTL/CMOS compatible. In other words, the output is a signal
of high and low voltages with clean and vertical transitions.
Other optical sensors do not include such conditioning circuits. This
means that the output of these sensors can be a little difficult to
be interpreted by a TTL/CMOS input. There are several reasons for the
difficulty.
