Fragmentation may or may not have significant impact on system
performance as a whole, depending on the type of program that you run.
Generally speaking, if you have applications that are file input/output
bound, then defragmentation can potentially very helpful. Such applications
include any program that uses a local database (on the hard disk), as
well as applications that access large files.
