In this section, we touch on some terms that are useful in the
description of the Internet. We'll connect all the terms in the
next section.
- IP : Internet Protocol. For now, look at it
as a language that allows network connected machines
(not necessarily computers) exchange information.
- Network interface: A
network interface is a physical socket where message can be
sent or
received. A networked computer typically has one network
interface, but it can also have multiple network interfaces.
- IP address : Each network interface
acquires an IP address somehow. This allows a network interface
be uniquely identified among other network interfaces.
