In the old days, most computers only have a display and a keyboard as
user interfaces. With graphical user interfaces (GUIs) ,
it becomes important to also have a ``pointing device''.
Because GUIs concepts unique to computers (and mostly in the past 20
years), it is important to expand this section into smaller sections
that address the general concepts of a GUI, then back to the explanation
of pointing devices.
