3.2.1 Properties

A disk is, conceptually, a special kind of folder. This is best illustrated by Windows Explorer when it is started from ``My Computer''. The following is an example (in icon view):

Note that we have two categories of disks. The ``Hard Disk Drives'' are devices that are inside a computer, and they cannot be uninstalled without opening the case of a computer. On the other hand, ``Devices with Removable Storage'' refers to devices that, by design, can be removed without opening the case and without powering down a computer.

To learn more about a particular disk, right-click the icon representing the disk, then select ``Properties'' in the pop-up menu, as follows:

The dialog box (after you select ``properties'' from the pop-up menu) looks like the following:

It is out of the scope of this class to discuss the various operations you can trigger from this dialog box. Please consider taking CISC320 to learn more about disk operations from the Properties dialog box.
