3.1.2 Windows Explorer

If you want to do anything with files, you need to start up Windows Explorer. There are various ways to start up Windows Explorer, and different computers may be configured to have different restrictions.

The most common method is to double-click an icon on the desktop called ``My Computer''. This opens a Windows Explorer at the top level. You'll see the various disk drives, as well as other devices that are connected to the computer such as scanners, cameras, and etc.

If this icon is mssing from the desktop, you can usually find it in the ``Start'' menu.

Because most applications save documents in the ``My Documents'' folder, you can usually find this icon on the Desktop, or in the Start menu. This starts Windows Explorer in the folder called ``My Documents'', which saves you some navigation to get there from ``My Computer''.

When Windows Explorer starts, it usually looks like the following.
